It started with a spreadsheet.

Retirement planning in our house involved a lot of phone calls.

We had a financial advisor we trusted and a plan in place. But whenever we wanted to try a different scenario, we had to ask them to run the numbers. A question like, “What if we retired at 62, used our taxable savings first, and converted some of the IRA to Roth?” meant another call, another run through their software, and numbers scribbled on the backs of envelopes.

It shouldn’t be this hard to get a clear picture of your own retirement. We wanted to explore the numbers ourselves: change one thing and see what happened. Just show us the math!

So we built a spreadsheet. It kept growing, and eventually became Pasture.

Call us DIY retirement nerds. (Just don’t call us financial advisors!)

We’re not finance people. We’re not tech bros. We’re regular people who like seeing the math and what happens when one number changes. It all came back to one question: Will we have enough?

Pasture does not provide financial advice, make investment recommendations, or tell you what to do with your money. Please don’t ask us—we truly can’t tell you!

Have a financial advisor? Great. Listen to them! They’re smart. When you want to see the plan for yourself, that’s what Pasture is for.

Why the name Pasture?

Being “put out to pasture” has always sounded like someone else gets to decide when you retire. We liked the idea of reclaiming the pasture—having the clarity to choose for ourselves what comes next.
